Cheri MacArthur and Robert Longseth of Golden Forensics will present a Cozen O'Connor webinar titled, "The Dog Did It – Developing a Products Case from Inadvertent Stove Activations" on Thursday, June 24, 2021. This presentation will focus on how the defective nature of certain residential ranges results in fires and how such a claim can be successfully subrogated against the manufacturer. The presenters will discuss the applicable standards issued by Underwriter Laboratories (UL) and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and how the various ranges comply or fail to comply with those standards. A mechanical engineer will explain the testing needed to establish the defect and discuss alternative designs the manufacturer can implement to safeguard against inadvertent stove activations. The presentation will detail the claims that can be asserted against the manufacturer and arguments for rebutting the manufacturer’s inevitable defense that the fire was the fault of the insured, their children, pets, or others.
